History of the Graduate Program

UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung

The pilot for the implementation of the Postgraduate Program at UIN SGD Bandung has been carried out since 1989. Furthermore, based on letter number IN.10/PP.00.9/0864/1996 dated November 15, 1989, IAIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung sent a letter requesting the establishment of PPs to the Minister of Religion.

In accordance with the approval of the Director General of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture dated March 10, 1997 Number 455/D/T/1997, then through the Decree of the Minister of Religion Number 139 of 1997 which was stipulated on March 26, 1997, IAIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung was allowed to hold a Masters Program (S2 ) Islamic Religion.

On April 19, 2004, based on the Decree of the Director General of Bagais regarding the permit for the establishment of a doctoral degree for the Islamic Law and Islamic Education Study Program, it was accepted and both study programs were opened. In 2009, the Postgraduate Program at UIN SGD Bandung opened the Religious Studies study program for master and doctoral programs.

Since December 29, 2011, the Decree of the Director General of Islamic Education Number: Dj. /187/2011 concerning the opening of the Philosophy of Religion Study Program at the doctoral level. On April 11, 2013, the Decree of the Director General of Islamic Education No. 868 of 2013 was issued regarding the extension of the permit for the implementation of the Comparative Religion Study Program (S3).

Changes in nomenclature and the development of the number of study programs at the Postgraduate Program of UIN SGD Bandung took place relatively quickly. The Islamic Studies Program was replaced with a new study program. This is followed by the increasing interest of students to study.

On August 31, 2012, the Director General of Islamic Education Decree No. 1424/2012 was issued. The decree became the legal umbrella for the Master’s Degree Study Program of Islamic Religious Education and Family Law ( Ahwal Syakhshiyyah ).

A year later, on July 25, 2013, the Decree of the Director General of Islamic Education number 2084 of 2013 was issued regarding the permit to open the Islamic Education Management Study Program, Imu Al-Qur’an and Tafsir, Hadith Science, Arabic Language Education, Islamic Communication and Broadcasting, and Sharia Economic Law ( Muamalah ).

On March 13, 2014, the Masters Program in Islamic History and Cultural Studies (SKI) for the Masters level received permission to open, with the issuance of the Decree of the Director General of Islamic Education number 1460 of 2014. As a concentration, SKI was originally under the Study Program of Islamic Studies, but With the issuance of the decree, SKI has now become its own study program.
